Dr. Jean Bolognia, MD
Dr. Jean Bolognia is one of the most influential dermatologists in modern medicine. She has dedicated her career to Yale School of Medicine, where she serves as a Professor of Dermatology after completing her own medical training there.
She is perhaps best known as the senior editor of “Bolognia’s Dermatology,” a comprehensive textbook that has become essential reading for dermatologists worldwide. In the medical community, this text is so fundamental that it’s often simply referred to by her name – “Bolognia.”
Throughout her career, she has taken on major leadership roles, including serving as President of the Medical Dermatology Society, the American Board of Dermatology, and the American Dermatological Association. Her research has particularly focused on melanoma and pigmented lesions.
As an educator, she has earned recognition for her exceptional ability to explain complex dermatological concepts clearly, making her a valued mentor to generations of dermatology residents and fellows.
The most well-known recent version of her comprehensive textbook is “Bolognia Dermatology,” published with co-editors Julie V. Schaffer and Lorenzo Cerroni. This text is divided into multiple volumes and covers the entire spectrum of dermatological conditions, from basic science to clinical presentations. The book is notable for its detailed color photographs, comprehensive coverage of rare and common conditions, and clear organizational structure.
If you’re interested in her very latest publications or current work, I’d recommend checking recent dermatology journals or Yale School of Medicine’s faculty publications page.
