BOTOX® Cosmetic
After years of squinting, laughing, frowning, smoking, and worrying, the skin around the eyes and on the forehead will often develop deep lines and wrinkles called "expression lines." A frequent concern is that they often make you look older, tired, or stressed. Until recently, these advanced furrows have been difficult to treat. Now, by utilizing this FDA approved muscle-relaxing agent, expression lines can be significantly reduced.

Smile, laugh, frown, and make all the facial expressions you want and stop worrying about wrinkles!

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent derived from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum. For over a decade, ophthalmologists have applied BOTOX® Cosmetic for its original intention, the treatment of blepharospasm. Physicians have utilized BOTOX® Cosmetic for years as a cosmetic treatment to correct visible signs of stress and aging.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
The contractions and movements of the facial muscles are controlled by signals from the brain. BOTOX® Cosmetic simply prevents the muscle from allowing responses to these messages. As a result, the muscle relaxes and the overlying skin remains unwrinkled and smooth.

What is treatment like?
With a very fine needle, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the specific muscle that is contracting and causing the lines and wrinkles on the face. Treatment is effective, safe, and takes approximately 10 minutes. The pain is a minimal "pin prick" and no anesthetic is required. Immediately following treatment, you may resume regular activities!

How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment last?
The effects usually last 3 to 4 months, and fade away gradually. Following several treatments, the results may last 4 to 8 months or longer. BOTOX® Cosmetic offers extended relief over the course of long-term treatment.

Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic, if any, are usually mild and temporary. Botulinum toxins contain proteins, which in some circumstances may be naturally safeguarded against by the body's ability to produce antibodies. If antibodies are formed, the therapy will generate a lesser response. Temporary bruising is sometimes experienced, though this symptom resolves itself within 2 to 3 days. In rare cases, there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression. If this should happen, return to your physician.

What type of results will I see?
Typically, the effect of BOTOX® Cosmetic is visible within 3 days. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days. Once the muscle becomes dormant and the skin softens, you will have a more relaxed and youthful appearance. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are not a substitute for the results achieved with a facelift. The optimum appearance may be achieved with BOTOX® Cosmetic therapy in conjunction with a facelift, laser resurfacing, and skin rejuvenation.

Restylane®
Facial lines and wrinkles are caused by a gradual breakdown of the body's collagen and the elastin fibers in the skin. No one is immune from experiencing this normal aging process. Squinting, frowning and smiling also inflict stress on the underlying collagen in the skin and accelerate the formation of these furrows. Until recently, injectable collagen was the most widely used available cosmetic filler to improve the appearance of these lines.

Restylane® is long lasting cosmetic filler that provides dramatic results for improving the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. This is a non-surgical solution to soften facial lines and wrinkles, restore volume and fullness to the skin, plump up lips, and fill in scars. Restylane® injected into the lips can give back fullness to lips that have receded. The cosmetic results are visible immediately, bestowing you with a more youthful and invigorated look.

What is the treatment like?
Restylane® is injected in small amounts under your skin to fill creases, lines, wrinkles, or folds. It is also injected around the lip area to create volume, resulting in a more youthful appearance. A skin test is not necessary prior to treatment, so treatment can be performed at any time. In order to optimize your comfort, the treatment area may be anesthetized with a topical cream or anesthetic block. Treatment results are immediately evident.

How long do the results last?
Depending on many factors, such as your lifestyle, age, and skin structure, your results may last as long as six months to a year or more. You may require a touch up treatment 2 to 4 weeks after the first treatment to achieve your desired result. Treatment to enhance the lips is reported to last much longer than treatment using standard collagen filler. When the effect of the treatment begins to diminish, you can replenish the area as needed.

What are the benefits of Restylane®?
  • Immediately you will discern a smoothing of the wrinkles and folds.
  • Restylane® will impart lift and new firmness to your skin.
  • With lip enhancement, the results will be noticeably fuller and more contoured lips.
  • It is not necessary for you to be tested for skin sensitivity.
  • The cosmetic results are visible immediately, bestowing you with a more youthful and invigorated look.
  • When the effect of the treatment begins to diminish, you can replenish the area as needed.
Restylane® vs. Collagen
Restylane® has been demonstrated to last much longer than the standard bovine collagen injection. The occurrence of an allergic reaction is extremely rare due to the product's non-animal associated basis. Unlike injectable collagen filler that is made of bovine protein and can cause an allergic reaction in some patients, Restylane® is a natural substance, hyaluronic acid, which is a sugar molecule already present naturally in the human body. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is similar to that found throughout your body, which gives volume and fullness to the skin. It is both biodegradable and compatible with human hyaluronic acid. Because of this compatibility it is not necessary for you to be tested for skin sensitivity.

What can I expect following treatment?
You can resume normal activities following treatment. The most commonly reported side effect has been redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within a few hours or, at most, a day or two. Results are immediately evident. Lines, wrinkles and folds look softer and your skin looks smooth.

Laser Hair Removal
Laser treatment for unwanted hair is a non-invasive approach to permanent reduction and long-term hair removal. Treatment is specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. Unlike many other treatment methods, Laser Hair Removal leaves your skin looking and feeling smoother and softer!

What is treatment like?
Preliminary setup requires cleansing and shaving of the area to be treated. The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, controlled pulses of light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the hair follicles. The heat discourages and ultimately destroys the potential for regrowth. Post-treatment procedures include cleansing of the treated area and application of sunblock. Large areas such as backs, shoulders, abdomens, and legs can be treated rapidly. Facial areas such as the lip, chin, and beard can be treated in minutes.

What are the benefits?
  • The FDA approved this technology for permanent hair reduction.
  • You experience no down time. Resume regular activities immediately.
  • Less pain and discomfort compared to other treatment methods.
  • Large areas can be treated quickly.
  • Chance of scarring and pigmentation changes are minimized.
How many treatments are required?
Because the laser affects hair follicles only when they are in the growth phase, more than one treatment may be necessary to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter the growth phase. During your consultation, you will be advised as to the approximate number of treatments you will need.

Who are candidates for treatment?
Millions of men and women have been successfully treated. Treatments are customized according to hair color, texture and location on the body. Most hair colors can be treated with a high level of patient satisfaction. Treatment is effective on all skin types, including dark skinned individuals of all ethnic origins.

Is treatment painful?
This procedure is tolerated well by most patients, as the laser functions so quickly that only a mild sting is felt. Local anesthesia or pain medication is not required, but topical anesthetic is an option for more sensitive areas.

Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Sensitivity, irritation, or redness sometimes occurs at the treatment site, but disappears quickly or within a few days. You will be notified during your consultation if you are susceptible to these side effects. You must limit your sun exposure immediately prior to and after treatment. This will greatly minimize the risk of side effects.

Laser Facial Vein Treatment
Men and women of all ages are currently seeking better alternatives to maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Medical laser and intense pulsed light technology has evolved to provide non-invasive, "no down time" treatments for certain benign skin conditions. If you suffer from broken or raised capillaries/rosy cheeks, spider veins, birthmarks, portwine stains, Rosacea, or pigmented lesions such as age spots, sun spots and uneven pigmentation, laser skin treatments can provide the safe and effective alternative you have been looking for. Enjoy a more youthful appearance with skin rejuvenation.

What does treatment involve?
Light safely passes through the outermost layers of skin in search of the targeted vascular or pigmented lesions. Without damaging the surrounding skin, the laser's intense light is absorbed by the targeted lesion. The light energy is then converted to heat and this initiates the process of eliminating the lesion. The treated lesion will gradually fade or diminish. In many cases, smaller vessels or pigmentation spots are eliminated in 1 to 2 treatments. Medium or larger vessels may take additional treatments.

Laser treatment can be utilized for small facial areas or for the entire face. Recently, full-face treatments have become increasingly popular. Many people suffer from larger broken capillaries on their nose and cheeks and will have medium and smaller vessels on other facial areas. A full-face treatment will improve the overall facial appearance by creating a more uniform skin color, and by smoothing the texture of the skin.

The hand piece quickly advances across the skin delivering pulses to the treatment site. A full-face treatment typically lasts anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. Smaller areas, such as the nose, can be treated in 15 minutes. In some cases a topical anesthetic cream is first applied to numb the treatment area. For a short period of time following treatment, a cold compress may be applied to soothe the possible appearance of slight swelling or redness of the skin. Treatments on the face, chest, neck, hands, legs, and abdomen are all done safely and quickly with laser technology.

How many treatments are required?
During your consultation, your skin's condition will be evaluated and a customized treatment program will be suggested. In some cases only one or two treatments are required. However, in many cases three to five or more treatments will be required to achieve premium results. The number of treatment sessions will depend on the type of lesion to be treated, the location of the lesion on the body, and its size and color. In many cases, it is recommended that treatments applied to the face be repeated at 3 to 4 week intervals. The time intervals of your treatments will be determined during the consultation, where many of these issues and concerns may be addressed.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown-pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. You will learn more about side effects during your consultation.

Permanent Cosmetics
What is Permanent Cosmetics?
Permanent Cosmetic Makeup, also referred to as Micro-pigmentation or Cosmetic tattooing, is a procedure of applying micro insertions of pigment onto the dermal layer of the skin. For centuries, men and women have been utilizing this practice to enhance or correct their skin color. The most common applications involve the eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner. This procedure is also used for correction of scars, cleft lips, areola restoration, and vitiligo. Many women who have had this procedure find they wear much less makeup than before, while others continue to apply regular makeup for the more finished look and enjoy the color the permanent cosmetics add to their facial features, especially when no makeup is applied at all.

Who benefits from Permanent Cosmetics?
  • Patients with dexterity and eyesight challenges.
  • Those who must look their best for professional occupations.
  • Men or women with very blonde features.
  • Anyone needing to fill in sparse eyebrows or scar camouflage.
  • People with allergies to makeup.
  • Athletes and anyone who practices regular exercise that want to look their best at all times!
  • People physically unable to apply makeup.
  • Busy people yearning for freedom and convenience from daily cosmetic application.
  • Those seeking symmetry of facial features.
Lip Liner and Color Enhancement
Augmenting your lips with permanent cosmetics can make them appear as if their size and shape have changed, as well as enhance their color. Lip liner placement can camouflage fine lines surrounding the lips and prevent the look of lipstick bleeding into the surrounding skin. Most people choose to have a very natural color applied, while others desire a more dramatic effect.

Eyebrows
This very popular procedure is critical for patients who wish to possess more fullness to his or her brow. Since the finalized application is waterproof, those having this procedure are free to go swimming, exercise, and change clothing without worrying about their eyebrows wiping off. Advanced techniques achieve a hairline stroke appearance for a more natural look.

Eyeliner
The pigment can be placed between the eyelashes for a very subtle look, although a more bold and definite look can easily be achieved. Ophthalmologists have often recommended this procedure for those with an allergy to conventional cosmetics.

Areola Reconstruction
For those who wish to have more color added to their areola nipple area, this treatment has proven to be safe and effective. Many surgeons will recommend the procedure to women who have had breast reconstruction in order to repigment the new nipple area as a match to the hue of their natural nipple areola.

Scars and Small Area Repigmenting
Small areas are quickly and easily performed upon to match the affected area to the surrounding skin color. Burn victims, those with unsightly scarred areas, and people with vitiligo can greatly benefit from this safe and effective procedure.

Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is relatively comfortable, especially when topical anesthetic is applied.

How is the procedure performed?
Your treatment provider will discuss the results you desire and, depending on the area to be treated, may have you apply regular makeup to determine the shape and colors you would like to attain. The area is cleansed and a topical anesthetic is applied for your comfort. Then, via a delicate hand piece, the pigment is placed throughout the dermal layer of the skin. An area such as a lip could take 40 to 60 minutes and a lower lash could take 30 to 40 minutes. However, each procedure length may vary amongst technicians.

What will I look like immediately following the procedure?
There will be slight swelling and redness of the skin, which will quickly subside. You may resume regular activities immediately. You may be asked to refrain from wearing makeup and contact lenses depending on the area treated. You will want to avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area for a certain period of time. You will begin to see your final results in a 2 to 3 week period.
